MEMORIAL DAY MESSAGE
AN AMERICAN SOLDIER
An American soldier died today
How many citizens paused to pray
For the brave young man who gave up his life
Leaving behind a grieving wife.
His Mother's alone, her heart is broken
A folded flag will be the token
She'll receive in love from her son's wife
To help an old woman remember her boy's life.
His only child, fatherless now
Hugs his mother and wonders how
To be courageous, to be great
But he's just a boy, he's only eight.
Congress debates, generals report
Polls suggest there's little support
Everyone claims we'll leave when we're able
Benchmarks and time frames are now on the table
That's little comfort for these three
For their precious loved one, they'll never see.
Every day our young men and women fight
Believing America is the world's guiding light
Don't try guessing whether I voted for Bush or Gore
Don't imagine you know if I'm for or against this war
Your guess could be wrong and you'd dismiss
My message and it's important, all I wanted to say is this
An American soldier died today
How many citizens paused to pray?
Original poem by Onehealthpro
Judy's poem hit home. Here in Iowa, we are all aware of the the 133rd Battalion serving in Iraq, protecting convoys. The Battalion has lost 2 men so far, and their stay has been extended from April 2007 to now August 2007. (Their story was covered on the news show, 60 Minutes, last night.) Pray for these men and women and their families. It has not been an easy time.
